With good reason, succulents have become extremely popular in recent years. There are hundreds of distinctive varieties to choose from, and almost anyone, even novices, can grow them. They can survive in indoor succulents that are too dry for most other plants thanks to their unique tissue that stores water. As a result, even if you forget to water them for a while, they will continue to thrive. Succulents also thrive in warm, dry conditions, which are already present in the majority of homes. As a result, you won’t need to do anything special to grow one in your living room. Here are a few of the best indoor succulents to start your collection of if you’re new to growing plants.
A trailing succulent known as “burro’s tail” or “donkey’s tail” (Sedum morganianum) looks best in a hanging basket, container, or plant stand where it can drape over the sides. Each stem is packed with gray-green leaves about the size and shape of a rice grain and can be up to three feet long. Because the leaves have a light sheen that disappears when you touch them, fingerprints will show up on them. Indoor succulents that the burro’s tail leaves are fragile and easily fall off, so it’s best to avoid touching them as much as possible. The burro’s tail, which is native to Mexico, prefers bright light for optimal performance. Between watering, you can let the soil dry out, especially in the winter when growth is less active.
The Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera x buckeye) lacks sharp spines, unlike other cacti. Its flat, fleshy, segmented stems can reach a few feet in length, frequently draping over the edge of a vessel, earning it the name “crab claw cactus.” Additionally, water whenever the top inch of soil is dry because it prefers a little bit more moisture than its spiky cousin. This cactus should reward you by blooming in the winter with dazzling pink blooms if it is kept in bright light near a window.
You might actually have a Thanksgiving indoor succulents they are closely related to Christmas cacti—if it blooms a little earlier than you expect and the stem segments are spiky instead of scalloped. Don’t worry, though—the care instructions are the same for both. The common name for two succulent plants is “hens and chicks,” and although they are closely related to one another, their appearances are slightly distinct.
Small, identical plants that are slightly offset from the mother (the hen) are produced by both. Echeveria elegant produces annual bell-shaped blooms and forms flat, flower-like rosettes with rounded edges. Sempervivum tectorum also forms rosettes, but each leaf is typically more pointed and flatter. The flowers are tiny stars. Both of these succulents are particularly enjoyable to collect because they come in a wide variety of colors and are interesting to look at. When grown as houseplants, Sempervivum and Echeveria require similar care.
Due to the risk of rot in their stems and roots from constant moisture, both should be allowed to slightly dry out between watering. They will thrive in bright sunlight close to a window. By removing the chicks and putting the succulents in their own container, you can easily propagate them. If you want your succulents and cacti to have the drainage they require, all you need to do is use a sandy potting mix labeled for them. There are a few reasons why the jade plant (Cassola ovata) is a classic favorite: It is easy to grow! When grown in full sun, this robust native of South Africa produces stems that are indoor succulents, and its thick, glossy green leaves are sometimes tinged red around the edges.
Some varieties have leaves that look different, like the “Gollum” variety, which has leaves that look like green monster fingers. Jade plants can reach several feet in height over time; however, they typically remain about a foot tall when grown as houseplants. Planting them in a heavier container, like terra cotta, is a good idea because they can become a little top-heavy. Allowing the soil to completely dry out between watering is essential to the health and happiness of a jade plant. Although these symptoms indicate that the plant is already stressed, some gardeners only water jade when the leaves begin to pucker or lose their shine; It may begin to drop leaves if you wait that long.
On a short stem, aloe Vera forms a cluster of long, slender leaves. It grows more offsets indoor succulents of leaves that can form a colony big enough to fill the entire container—over time. Even though aloe Vera’s healing sap has been used for centuries to treat sunburn and wounds, it does have sharp “teeth” along its leaf edges that could cut an unwitting passerby, so handle it with caution. Aloe Vera is a generous, simple to- indoor succulents that is hard to kill. It grows best in bright light and likes to be kept on the drier side, like other succulents. However, if you suddenly move it into a hot, sunny window, its leaves can get burned.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
It is a possibility my first batch froze, but they got hung up in a storm and left in a warehouse for a week. Amazon replaced them immediately of course and I received a healthy batch two days later right before Christmas. They were happy healthy beautiful plants.
I’m not sure of the answer in regards to these particular succulents, but lots of succulents are cold-weather hardy. “Hens and Chicks” is one variety. My local nurseries sell trays of low-growing succulents that are used as ground cover. I’m in zone 7.
No… It is a suggestion for dilution. If you want to water it with less you need to do the math for correct dilution ratio. I suggest you do a half of a capful inside an entire watering can. This fertilizer is very strong and will burn your plants.
They do better with less water. If they get too much, their leaves become soft. Let the dirt completely dry out, then water, but not too much. They love sunlight. Hope that helps!
This would look stunning if your box is in the right climate. Put mine in an outside planter and they all froze. So not winter harder. I did love the great collection of plants that I received.
Because of the nature of this plant, having it shipped it winter carries a high chance that the plant will die. Succulents are full of water and if/when that water freezes the plant is as good as dead. So shipping when it is snowing, when water can freeze is a bad idea if you want them to live.
