Mine starts doing the same after probably 6-8 hours of continuous operation. Not sure if this is a defect or just a supposed behavior. Will check with the manufacturer. Speculating on this further, a refrigerator works exactly like this. Since AC utilizes the same principle, I’m guessing it might be perfectly normal (e.g. for water evaporating purposes). One fix I found that works better than the supplied window insert is to buy a piece of plex glass that will fit snugly into the opening and allow you to cut a hole equal to the size of the exhaust hole in the supplied insert. Insert this into the desired window opening with weather strips along the outer edge to fill any gaps or if you wish to keep the exhaust in the window permanently using caulk to fill any gaps. The only way to keep a room cool is to make sure the cold air goes into the room and the hot air doesn’t, hence the vent hose. If you run it without a vent hose, it’s essentially like repeatedly kicking yourself in the ass as a means to fly
