I have to say that “150 to 350 sq. feet” is just about right. I don’t know if you can get more precise without specifying the conditions: the room layout, the temperature outside. Ours cools one small room really well, but also helps some in the hall and bathroom outside that one room, if the doors are left open to the rest of the house. Sorry I couldn’t give a more precise answer.
The unit as it comes does not. Someone handy could make a 6” wide panel as high as the door that performs the function of the panel that comes with the unit and perhaps integrates the included adapting panel. It also would pretty much make the doorway nonfunctional unless it is two doors that each slide. I bought mine as a backup when my HVAC went out and it was a lifesaver in the Florida summer. It also rids itself of water condensed into the process if you run it strictly on the a/c function. If you run the dehumidifier function you’ll have to dispose of water. It can be pretty loud, but that is because the compressor is completely inside the house
I installed mine horizontally, but I don’t see why it couldn’t be installed vertically. If the height of your window opening is taller than the window panel can extend, you could always fill in the extra space with Styrofoam or something like that (I’m sure you could easily find something at a hardware store). The thing to note is that when attaching the hose to the window panel, it will either go off to the right or left, so account for that when deciding where to put the AC unit.
