As many other customers acknowledged, it does make occasional faint clicking noises that are not an issue for me. As it heats up, my unit makes a fairly loud popping noise. It only happens as the oil is heating up or, sometimes when cooling down. I don’t think somebody on the other end of a phone call could hear it. The noise frequently catches me by surprise and startles me, but it’s still not an issue.
Copied from an answer to a similar question: A: You can only program it to turn on after a set number of hours not at a certain time. If you want the heater to turn on at 6:00 am, then at 10:00 pm the night before with the unit off, (heater must be off in order to set the heater to turn on) touch the timer switch, timer icon will display and using the + or – to increase or decrease the hours displayed set it for 8 hours and the heater will turn on 8 hours later or 6:00 am. If you want the heater to turn off in 2 hours, with the heater running (heater must be operating in order to set it to shut off) press the timer and using the + or – set the hours displayed to 2 hours, basic but effective
This unit allows timing of “ON” or “OFF”. Selection is made and up to 12 hours can be selected. For example, IF unit is ON, timer can be set to turn OFF at a time YOU select. CHANGES IN TEMPERATURE DESIRED AT A FUTURE TIME CAN NOT BE MADE.

Most radiant heaters are measured in Watts and not BTU. However, one watt equals approximately 3.412 BTU. So, at the maximum 1500 setting, the BTU output would be approximately 5,118 BTU.
Hello Arias by Moonlight, thanks for asking me how long the cord is. The cord is 72″ long. But don’t let that be your deciding factor. This is the reason why I returned the heater – so called patened heat slots are worthless.
No it is not, look at that other answers, they are from a long time ago, I must have a newer model (early 2021), because it makes a loud BANG noise, about 5-10 minutes upon heating up and cooling down as the metal expands, so impossible to use in a bedroom if you are sleeping. Also it clicks quite a bit too just during regular operation and DeLonghi would do nothing for me on this, even though I think the newer model is defective design.
It has a thermostat and a timer. To have the unit come on when a smart switch activates (make sure your smart switch can handle 1500 watts) the timer can be set to be on at all times. Of course it will only come on if the temperature surrounding the unit is colder than the thermostat if set for. It would be a waste of money using this model on a smart switch since the reason it is more expensive than the other heater models is that it has a built in timer
The cord should never get hot. The plug should never get hot. If you place your hand on the power plug and it feels more than just a little bit warm (you need some judgement here) you probably have a problem with a bad outlet or wiring to that outlet and should turn OFF the heater or use a much lower power setting and possibly replace the outlet and check the connections
It does for the first day or two due to the new oil reacting with the heat for the first time. However, after that it never smells. I’ve had mine for 3 years and had any issue with the smell.
Depends of how much you use it. On high setting it consume 1500W. If it runs on high 24 hours a day, that is about $5/day for 14cents/kW/hr. However, you probably wouldn’t use it on high all day plus it has a thermostat meaning that it will shut down occasionally even at the highest setting. At our house we use these to maintain the temperature in our bedrooms at about 72F during Chicago nights. I keep it at Min setting (700W) and the thermostat at 3. It comes on every hour or so for a few minutes a shuts off
I’ve had my Delonghi radiant heater for 10 years. I use it in my home office and keep it on 24/7. Only time I shut it off is if we are out of the house on a vacation. My office can be cold year round, in the winter because of outside temp, in summer because the air conditioner used to cool our main level to 80 degrees, freezes out our basement level which is where my office is. I love that I can walk into my office at any time and it is a reasonable temp. No noise, quiet heat.

Yes, they are very quiet. You will not notice they are on. There’s just a small clicking sound when they click on and off. I own two of these heaters and love them! Highly recommend them for heating a small area or room. And more importantly you will not notice them on your electric bill!
Perhaps because it is a new product there aren’t many verified purchasers ready to write a review. This is a well-made heater, operates virtually silently, moves easily on wheels and does not get hot to the touch. But while I realize this is a radiant heater rather than forced fan, it is just not warming up a room for me, even after letting it run for 1-2 hours first. Probably user error but my forced fan heaters are more suited to my needs
